Extended Stay Follows a Social Business Model

Helping Families Face Cancer

Extended Stay hotels has a passion to support a charitable cause close to the hearts of its employees. This large, purpose-driven company decided to support the American Cancer society by donating rooms to patients suffering from cancer. This massive social business helps ease the burden of cancer care. Patients and families are able to focus on getting treatment and recovering. They do not have to face the stress of paying for lodging when they travel for treatment.

Doing Something Big

In 2013, the leadership of the Extended Stay hotel chain decided it wanted to do something big to help patients and families suffering from cancer. The company partnered with the American Cancer Society to create a social enterprise. They decided to call the new enterprise Hotel Keys of Hope. Many Extended Stay hotels are located near medical centers, making them an ideal fit for families.

Extended Stay now provides free or deeply discounted lodging to cancer patients and their families. One of the stresses associated with cancer is the cost of lodging while traveling for expensive treatments. Extended Stay aims to reduce this cost for families through the donation of rooms. This is a great example of a social business using its resources to help people in need.

Long Term Goals

So far, Extended Stay has donated 50,000 stays in hotels at their 625 locations in the United States. Nearly 7000 patients and families have benefited from the program. By July of 2017, Extended Stay hopes to have provided 150,000 rooms for cancer patients and their families.
